Alex E. Cunny is a complex litigator and trial attorney who has spent his entire career zealously advocating for victims of sexual abuse, childhood sexual assault, and sexual harassment. Since joining the bar in 2013, Alex has obtained seven figure verdicts, dozens of seven and eight figure recoveries for clients, and been a member of litigation teams that have secured nine figure recoveries against religious institutions, National Governing Bodies and public school districts. Alex has worked on several Liaison Counsel/Lead Counsel teams in representing survivors of sexual abuse, in some of the most consequential cases across the Nation, including within the USA Gymnastics Bankruptcy, the Larry Nassar Cases involving Michigan State, the Los Angeles Unified School District, Coordinated Proceedings against the Roman Catholic Church, and the George Tyndall and James Heaps matters. This pursuit of justice has given Alex the opportunity to litigate in a variety of forums, from State Court to Federal Court, Bankruptcy Courts, and across the Nation as pro hac vice counsel. During the course of his career, Alex has represented hundreds of survivors of sexual abuse and helped recover billions against some of the largest entities in the Nation.
Alex graduated from California Polytechnic State University in 2010, and went on to Santa Clara University – School of Law, where he was on Law Review and the Dean’s List. Prior to joining the State Bar of California as an attorney in November of 2013, Alex was a Certified Law Clerk within the Santa Clara County District Attorneys’ Office and the San Mateo County District Attorneys’ Office, where he first gained courtroom experience in prosecuting felony and misdemeanor drug offenses. After passing the bar in November of 2013, Alex worked as an attorney with one of the leading sexual assault law firms in the nation for nearly a decade, having represented hundreds of survivors of sexual assault in a variety of contexts, including childhood sexual assault survivors in public schools, private schools, youth organizations, National Governing Bodies including United States Figure Skating and USA Gymnastics, and religious institutions. In 2023, Alex opened his own law firm to continue to advocate on behalf of individuals who have been seriously injured and expand his practice to include litigation efforts against insurance companies and a broader spectrum of those in need of representation.
In addition to his experience in the courtroom, Alex is a certified mediator who received formalized schooling and training through the Straus Institute at Pepperdine University and who has helped parties resolved complex and contentious matters. Alex formerly volunteered with the Mandel Gisnet Mediation Clinic in Monterey, California, where he mediated numerous contentious matters ranging from sexual assault cases to boundary disputes and temporary restraining orders.
